Antiques dealers buy and sell arts and antiques. They usually specialise in one or more areas going from ceramics and glass to sculpture or books. The role varies depending on the size of the company, there exists large businesses that employ 30 - 40 staff often with international offices.  But the majority of art and antiques dealers work in very small teams and are family businesses . Their typical work activies are representing the artists whose work the dealers sell, buying from auctions and private sales and it is also very important to establish and maintain a network of contacts. The market of antique is a highly competitive and comercial industry. The main issue when starting as a dealer is the considerable amount of capitak that it requires. For this reason, people commonly enter the business as a second career.
