Modern furniture were started to be produced in the late 19th. Famous examples are Marcel Breuer's Wassily Chair, Eileen Gray side table and the Barcelona chair designed by Mies Van Der Rohe and Lilly Reich in 1929. Nowadays contemporary furnishing continue to evolve design thanks to designers and manufacturers. Contemporary furnishing still seeks new materials, with which to produce unique forms, still employs simplicity and lightness of form, in preference to heavy ornament used by modernists. The objects that makes this shift to arise were produced in the middle of the 20th century and most of them well before 1960.
